In Your Business: The Studio Downtown

Hosted by: Jessica Crum, CEO of Silverlake design Studio

Featuring: Kate Carnahan, Owner of The Studio Downtown

There’s a story behind every business owner and we want to share it with you. Each month, we’ll be getting “In Your Business” with local leaders so you can get to know the passion and purpose behind them!

Jessica: What’s something someone may not know about you?

Kate: I’m an avid horror fan. ALL things horror: books, movies, comic books, anything.

Keeping work at work and home at home. Shameless plug for The Studio…

What’s your go-to pick me up around a 3pm work day?

I go on a walk! I sometimes get my last cup of coffee for the day, but usually if I just stop and take the time to go on a walk it will refresh me to finish the day.

What is your favorite place to visit you’ve already been to?

Probably LA, I miss it, the weather is nice, there is always something to do, and you can find affordable things to do there. Living there is expensive, but when you’re there visiting you can always find affordable things to do. You can drive an hour to go snowboarding or drive another hour to go snorkeling and be at the beach.

If you could have one thing from LA in Conway, what would it be?

Pupusas. There were so many great farmers markets that were all year round that didn’t just sell food. There was art and live music, but I do miss the pupusa stand that was right across from our church, where we shopped, where we did everything. Its really about having a continuous, local place to go. I haven’t been able to find anything like it in Arkansas.

What is one way the humans of Conway can support The Studio today?

They can give to our Kickstarter!

We are expanding to 10,000 sq. ft.of space in the iconic EM building in downtown Conway. We want to make it the destination for remote workers, soloprenuers, people that just need a break from home so that we can offer day passes, have a really cool workshop space, podcast studio, and just have a community.

COVID has been really hard to community hustlers and people who have been stuck home a lot. We really want to make it awesome and we need your help to do so. We are trying to raise $50,000 by July 1st.

Anything you give will go straight to the build out and supporting a few members. We are also going to be the home of the only creative gap year program, The Creative Institute, as well as the home to 50 businesses that need an inspiring place to work and you can make that happen.

Got a business idea you think will change the world?

We love working with local businesses and nonprofits!
