Record Store Day

Today, April 21st, 2012 is Record Store Day. Before you do anything else, consider heading out to your local independent record store.

What IS Record Store Day?

Record Store Day is a celebration of the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds of similar stores internationally. This is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Metallica officially kicked off Record Store Day at Rasputin Music in San Francisco on April 19, 2008 and Record Store Day is now celebrated the third Saturday every April.

  • Special Releases: Hundreds of your favorite artists are releasing exclusive records specifically for this day.
  • Artists Quotes: Check out this list of quotes from artists who have been inspired by record stores over the years.

“I was introduced to lots of great music through my local record store. It was a place where people knew music and they knew me, and could make great suggestions and discoveries. Whether it is in the physical world or on-line, the value of a great and knowledgeable record store has not gone away”

- Peter Gabriel
