Drum Tracks – “Get to It” [Video]

by Travis Whitmore on 09/28/2010 · 9 comments

Some of you have been wanting to know what the drum kit is sounding like in the studio. So, I put together a video below for your listening (and viewing) pleasure. The drum kit was recorded into Pro Tools with Sampson mics, two overheads (spaced pair) and one mono room mic. Everything is recorded raw with a tad bit of reverb and EQ on the snare and overheads. I plan on doing more of these in the future so be sure to check back again. Enjoy!

The tune is “Get to It” courtesy of Dave Weckl Music. I simply imported the audio files (without drums) into my Pro Tools rig.

    Hi Travis,

Great stuff and the kit sounds great, (must be those Weckl sticks!) You’ve gotta tell me about your snare drum sometime (mic placement and an external muffler on there etc..).

Thanks Dan! I certainly admire Dave Weckl and his sticks can’t hurt! The snare is actually an old steel Tama I’ve had forever. I’ve found it has the best sound in the studio so far. The external muffler is also an old Tama muffler. However, Remo makes a really nice dampening system (also a Weckl idea). I’m using one Sampson Q-Snare mic with a touch of EQ and reverb. I think the OH’s and room mic help to bring it to life. Thanks again for checking it out!
